We at Elephant Heart have a special place in our hearts for service members, veterans and their families. Today on Veteran’s Day, we want to take a moment to express our deepest gratitude to all of you for your enormous sacrifice, bravery, service, courage—for all you’ve done to protect us and our freedom.
To honor these heroes, Elephant Heart has partnered once again with The Bob Woodruff Foundation. This wonderful organization works to ensure that post-9/11 injured service members, veterans and their families are thriving long after they return to civilian life.
On November 6th, the Woodruff Foundation had an extraordinary event, Stand Up For Heroes, at Madison Square Garden in New York. They teamed with the New York Comedy Festival for an evening of hope, healing, and laughter hosted by Tom Hanks and featuring such amazing performers as Bruce Springsteen, Bill Cosby, Roger Waters, Jon Stewart and Jerry Seinfeld. (You can view the entire program here.)
The Foundation brought many injured service members and their devoted caregivers from all over the country to New York for this event, and also provided them with several days of respite, relaxation and pampering.
They presented each service member and their caregiver with a special gift bag. Elephant Heart was proud to include a set of our Elephant Heart Greeting Cards in each bag. These cards, featuring original artwork by students at 32nd Street School in Los Angeles, are so upbeat and positive. We hope they will lift their spirits!
While the wars may have faded from our consciousness, these injured service members, veterans and their families live with the physical and emotional consequences of their enormous sacrifice on a daily basis. There is no break, no respite. We are truly in awe of Bob and Lee Woodruff and the hard-working Foundation staff for their ongoing commitment to not forget and to assist these individuals in so many substantive and life-altering ways.
On this Veteran’s Day, we encourage you to honor these deserving heroes by visiting the Woodruff Foundation website to learn about how you can reach out and help.
One example—On December 3rd (Giving Tuesday), the Foundation will launch a Holiday online auction featuring many signed pieces. The auction will include our signature Elephant Heart Charm Necklace with Birthstone, as well as five new additions to the Elephant Heart Charm Collection that we are introducing just in time for the Holiday Season.
